Molon Labe

Equipped with superior fighting skills, King Leonidas I led the Spartan warriors into battle against Xerxes I and his massive Persian army at the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. Composed of roughly 300 Spartans, 400 Thebans and 700 Thespians, the Spartan army blocked the pass of Thermopylae, as the Persians were invading Greece. The outnumbered Spartans withstood for three days before ultimately falling in defeat of the Persian army, which consisted of an estimated 100,000 to 150,000 soldiers.

Today, more and more Americans identify with the expression “Molon labe,” as gun owners’ right to bear arms continues to be threatened. Molon labe is also used by the Greek First Army Corps and U.S. Special Operation Command Central.
